Our mission has always been to secure the funds needed to sympathetically restore the building and to preserve it as a literary landmark for generations to come. After a successful community share offer and with the help of substantial grants from Bradford City of Culture and the Government’s Levelling Up Fund we are in the process of buying the building. During the course of 2024 restoration work will begin to preserve both the house and the Brontë sisters’ Thornton legacy. Once opened we aim offer every visitor the chance to connect with the early years of these remarkable writers, particularly the young people of Bradford in order that they are inspired by the story of three girls from their home city who never lost sight of their dreams.
The Brontë Birthplace Campaign aim to restore and transform the terraced house in Thornton, Bradford, turning it into a social and educational space so preserving its importance in the greatest story literature has ever known.
Let’s work together to ensure the Brontë birthplace can be reborn to inspire and educate visitors about the amazing literary heritage of the Brontë sisters.
2024 will be a momentous year for the Brontë Birthplace. With the sale about to be completed and refurbishment work undertaken Brontë Birthplace Limited would like to thank more than 630 supporters who raised almost £120,000 to buy shares in our ambitious project.
